As for that squash...can't be too sure, because I usually stick with the smaller varieties. Two sure ways of cooking them are: cut in half (or slices if it's huge) add salt & pepper and some butter and put in the oven at 400 until fork-soft (usually 40min to an hour.) Otherwise you can mash it, by peeling and cubeing it and boiling the squash in a pot on the stove. You won't need to add water, as it has plenty of water on it's own. Then you can add garlic or spices of your choice and eat it in lieu of mashed potatoes.
